Electrowinning of lead from H2SiF6 solution.

The title recovery was done by electrodeposition on a lead cathode. An electrolysis solution was made by reacting H2SiF6 with battery sludge after neutralization with (NH4)2CO3, which converts the PbSO4 to PbCO3. Some lead powder is added along with aloes and calcium lignosulfonate. A 1-l polyethylene cell is used containing a pair of PbO2-coated titanium anodes and a single cathode of lead sheet. Electrolysis was at 180 a/m2 and a 97 pct current efficiency was obtained. Only 1.1 gof PbO2 was deposited at the anodes.
