Foreign investment increasing in U.S. minerals industry.

Responding to congressional inquiries regarding the purchase of a number of major domestic mining and metals companies by foreign firms, the Bureau of Mines examined trends in foreign direct investment in the U.S. mining and mineral processing industries. This paper analyzes the extent of foreign investment in several major mineral commodity industries, and identifies the countries of origin of foreign investment in U.S. mineral assets. The study also describes several reasons for the growth of foreign investment, in U.S. minerals and discusses some potential implications of this activity.
