Longwall Shearers Reverse Drum Rotation and Show Production and Health Benefits.

This paper describes recent evaluations by the Bureau of Mines comparing conventional (roof-to-floor) rotation to reverse (floor-to- roof) rotation on longwall shearer faces. The results showed improvements in product size and tram speed, and reductions in respirable dust generation and gas liberation.
