Computer Simulation of Face Ventilation to Dilute High Methane Concentrations Developed by Blasting Oil Shale.

This paper describes a one-dimensional finite element model used to simulate turbulent mass transfer in face ventilation of oil shale mines. The computer model was applied to study dilution of methane released by rubblizing oil shale during face blasting. A methane release function was back analyzed from field measurements and the finite-element model was calibrated using tracer gas characterization of full-scale face ventilation systems.
