Abstract
This paper describes Bureau of Mines investigations of recovery of ni, CO, cr, and other metals from mixed contaminated superalloy scrap. The scrap is melt-refined and cast into anodes for electrodeposition of recyclable ni-co alloy. Melt oxidation using roasted superalloy grinding sludge as oxygen source can divert the cr to the slag but with excessive ni-co loss. Melt oxidation- carburization or direct melt carburization retains approx. 95 pct of the ni-co in the anode alloy.
