Abstract
This paper reviews many effective dust control techniques for longwall mining systems. Experience has shown that several control procedures must be combined to ensure compliance; the procedures employed would depend on the dust source. Compliance records of longwall mining sections have been steadily increasing over the past 5 yr, thanks not only to improved control technology, but also to better understanding of the problem. Application of essential controls on all longwall faces and site-specific optional supplementary controls as needed can improve health protection, compliance, and productivity.
