This report describes an investigation to determine the usefulness of cyanex 471 in a liquid-liquid extraction process. Used as an extractant, cyanex 471 was found to have potential in the separation of palladium(II) from chloride solutions containing platinum(IV) and palladium(II), a capability that could be exploited in the recovering of palladium(II) from spent automotive catalysts.
