Abstract
This paper describes an investigation into the effects of composition on abrasive wear in four substitutional and two interstitial binary systems. The substitutional systems studied were hf-zr, cu-ni, cr-v, and fe-ni. Abrasive wear and hardness were measured on arc-melted specimens over the complete range compositions in each substitutional system, and the effects of solidus temperature, lattice strain, and thermal diffusivity on abrasive wear are discussed.
