Min Eng 1986 Oct; 38(10):953-958
This paper reviews the progress of dust control in longwall coal mining in the United States, highlighting the development of the shearer clearer, drum spray water supply systems, and improved cutting sequence designs. Other control methods such as ventilation strategies, the proportioning of water to the drums, and the remote control of the shearer from less contaminated locations are also discussed.
