Abstract
This paper describes a series of visits to 25 of the most productive continuous mining operations in the United States to ascertain the factors contributing to these high production figures. Some of these factors included positive relations between labor and management, selective hiring practices, specific performance standards, and an emphasis on the health and safety of employees.
