Proc 4th Ann Came Mtg 1985 :106-130
This paper details research by the Bureau of Mines to redesign the flow of equipment and supplies in underground mines. Video tapes of underground manual tasks such as handling concrete blocks, rock dust, and cross beams, and lifting the continuous miner power cable, were made for use in simulating these activities under controlled laboratory conditions. Recommendations include the redesign of surface storage areas to facilitate the use of forklifts, and the design of mechanical-assist devices for loading underground.
