Productivity, Safety, and Environment - a Coordinated Approach for Improving Coal Mining Technology.
Proc Illinois Mining Inst Annu Mtg Springfield Illinois 1985 :23 pages
As part of its mission to help assure that the nation has an adequate supply of minerals, the Bureau of Mines is conducting research to remove the obstacles to development of new, more productive mining methods. At the same time, these new technologies must assure the safety and health of the worker and allow extraction of the coal within the restrictions of existing and projected environmental regulations. The research program at the Bureau's Twin Cities Research Center (TCRC) in Minneapolis, Minnesota, is structured to address all three aspects: productivity, health and safety, and environment. This paper summarizes current status of several tcrc projects that have particular relevance to the Illinois Coal Mining District.
