Separation of Lithium Chloride from Impurities.
Schultze-LE; Bauer-DJ; Arington-RM
U S Patent 1986 May; (4):4 pages
Licl is separated from mixtures with cacl2 by preferentially dissolving the licl in tetrahydrofuran (thf). The process is particularly applicable to geothermal brines. Thus, 138 g of mixed salts from geothermal brines, containing 30 g ca and 3.2 G li was extracted with 1 l thf. This purification step increased the li content from 7% in the original mixture to 38% in the thf, with 93% recovery of li and 92% rejection of ca.
