High Reliability Miner Hydraulic System. Volume I - II.

Research was conducted to develop methods for improving the reliability of hydraulic systems in underground coal mining equipment. Major causes of poor reliability were (1) poor overall system design, (2) poor component contamination tolerance, (3) poor system filtration, and (4) poor maintenance practices stemming from a lack of defined maintenance procedures and enforcement of same. Volume i--part I describes the development of a computer model to aid in hydraulic system evaluation, the design study of a prototype continuous miner-bolter, the contaminant sensitivity testing of continuous miner-bolter, the contaminant sensitivity testing of pumps, and the evaluation of conduits, filters, cylinders and seals, fluids, and reservoirs.
