Recent Underground Observations of Intercepted Hydraulic Stimulations in Coalbed Methane Drainage Wells.

The Bureau of Mines has been investigating several techniques, including the use of horizontal and vertical boreholes, to remove gas from coal in advance of mining. This paper provides historical observations and general conclusions based on 19 intercepted stimulation treatments and detailed observations on 5 recent interceptions in the Upper Freeport coalbed, Pennsylvania, and the Lower Kittanning coalbed, West Virginia.
