Abstract
In this paper, the implementation of the knowledge based system (KBS) in terms of its components, the interfaces among the various componenets of the KBS and between the KBS and the user are described. The ventilation KBS consists of an AES (analysis expert system), and IES (interpretation expert system) and an algorithmic NAP (network analysis program). The AES analyzes the input to the NAP considering the legal stipulations governing the various mine ventilation network parameters and principles of good ventilation, helping the ventilation engineer develop and represent the problem for solution by the NAP. The IES diagnoses the output from the NAP in terms of the critical parametrsrs in the context of the given problem. This loop is continued until a satifactory solution is obtained. The implementational details of the AES, the IES and the approches to the validation of the expert system are also discussed.
