This study has demonstrated the applicability of hydrochloric acid- containing brine solutions in the extraction of uranium and radionuclides from a low-grade ore. The method combines the advantages of hydrochloric acid and neutral brine solution leachings. The presence of brine in the leach solution improved the extraction of radionuclides from the ore, and final extractions as high as 97% uranium, 75% thorium-230, 96% radium-226, and 65% lead- 210 were obtained. In this process, all the radioactive isotopes are extracted simultaneously. Uranium can be extracted selectively from the solution by solid ion exchange, for example, followed by the selective recovery of radium-226, then the other radionuclides.
