Methods and Critera for Producing a Photographic Core Logging Manual for the Pittsburgh Basin.
For Reference Only At Bureau Libraries :59 pages
Although continuous rock coring has long been practiced in the eastern coalfield of the United States, much potentially important information is lost owing to incomplete or confusing core description. A solution to this problem is presented in the form of a field manual containing color photographs of commonly occurring rock types. To prepare such a manual, specific procedures have been developed for selecting cores for sampling, sampling individual cores, and categorizing core samples on the basis of readily recognized criteria. In addition, a system of numeric designation has been developed for rock core to aid in rapid recording and assist in computer input, storage, and retrieval.
