An assessment of Fe-Mn-Al alloys as substitutes for stainless steels.
Benz-JC; Leavenworth-HW Jr.
J Met 1985 Mar; 37(3):36-39
This paper details a study by the Bureau of Mines that examined the properties of fe-mn-al alloys compared with austenitic stainless steels. Problems were encountered in melting, casting, and cutting the alloy. However, they could be easily hot worked, and they had good mechanical properties unless aged. Neither alloy tested exhibited good oxidation resistance during mild thermal cycling tests.
