The mineral industry is expected to grow modestly in 1985, continuing the gradual improvement that began late in 1983. This chapter covers the mining of ores of such metals as iron, copper, gold, silver, and molybdenum (sic 10) and the production of nonmetallic minerals such as stone, sand and gravel, clays, phosphate rock, salt, sulfur, and potash (sic 14), but excludes fuels.
