Overview of Bureau of Mines Coal Mine Research.
Min Tech 1984 Aug; 66(766):259-272
The Bureau of Mines mining research program is divided into two principal problem areas: health and safety and conservation and development; both programs address coal as well as metal and nonmetal problems, but this paper is limited to coal mining activities. The health and safety program addresses problems in underground and surface mines and in surface facilities associated with those mines. The conservation and development program focuses on problems relative to reducing the environmental impact of productivity and resource recovery. The emphasis of this paper is directed toward recent accomplishments that will be available to industry in the near future.
