Taking the Dust Out of Longwalls.
Niewiadomski-GE; Jankowski-RA; Kissell-FN
Min Equip Internat'l 1982 Dec; 6(12):25-28
Longwall mining offers many advantages, but controlling respirable dust can be difficult especially at mines using double-drum shearers. However, the Bureau of Mines, in cooperation with the mining industry, has developed and tested cost-effective solutions-- including improved ventilation, better uses of water, and improved machine design--that are currently in use. This paper discusses those solutions and some cases where the solutions do not apply.
