Roundrobin Investigation of Respirable Quartz Dust.

Five interagency roundrobin investigations were run by five laboratories in order to examine the analysis of quartz in coal dust by infrared spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction. The objective was to obtain consistent results from all laboratories. Three reference quartz standards were used during the investigations, and minus 5-um minusil was chosen as the preferred standard by four of the five laboratories. Quartz particle size distribution measurements were made by scanning electron and transmission electron microscopy on the reference standards. The results of the final roundrobin show that consistent values can be obtained from different laboratories using the same standard and similar techniques.
