Control and Distribution of Face Air by Water Sprays on Mining Machines.

Proc Symp on Vent of Coal Mines Wollongong NSW Australia 1983 May; :18.1-18.10
It has been recognized for some time that a water spray in a tube can act to move air through that tube. However, it is a more recent notion that a series of spray nozzles arranged in a logical fashion can be used to modify the airflow pattern on a mining machine to achieve a desired ventilation effect. The first development in this regard, the spray fan, was successful in quickly controlling airflow. This success led to other applications. The intent of this paper is to provide an update on those items that are familiar and to discuss, in some detail, the results that have recently been obtained.
