The purpose of this research was to develop guidelines for the efficient management of soil resources and for the production of rangeland vegetation, winter wheat, and alfalfa on surface mined areas in northwestern Colorado. The experimental soil management practices were four soil replacement thicknesses and ripping, disking, and fertilizing the overburden. The simple effects of soil thickness and cultural practices and their interaction were evaluated.
