Measuring in-seam coal cutting forces.
Min Eng 1983 Sep; 35(9):1281-1286
The U.S. Bureau of Mines developed a portable in-seam tester for direct in situ measurement of coal cutting forces. Since manufacturers and operators currently have no method available for evaluating the cutting characteristics of a coal seam in situ, the device is expected to provide the additional engineering data needed to optimize the equipment-seam match. It may also help develop the next generation of mining machines.
