The mineral industry was expected to have begun its recovery by yearend 1983, and mining production is expected to show a moderate gain in 1984. This predicted increase is a result of the strong economy anticipated for 1984. The industries this chapter covers are mine ores of such metals as copper, iron, gold, silver, and zinc (sic 10) and nonmetallic minerals such as stone, sand and gravel, clays, phosphate rock, salt, sulfur, and potash, but excluding fuels (sic 14).
