Abstract
Several slate-slime glass fiber formulations were suggeted as substitutes for asbestos in alkali environments. Different coatings were applied to determine their contribution to the alkali resistance of the system. The short fiberizing temperature range of the compositions precluded their fiberization with a 100-hole bushing. A single-hole bushing was used to obtain gram quantities for evaluation. This short fiberization range would preclude commercial-scale manufacture without further development.
