Abstract
Wet collectors and water spray systems usually provide adequate dust control for underground and surface applications at low cost. However, there are applications where water usage cannot be tolerated because of availability, disposal, or material handling problems. In trona mines, for example, water mixes with trona dust to form a cement-like material that is difficult to remove. This report describes a dry dust collector, developed under a Bureau of Mines contract, that has the dry fabric filtration advantages of (1) high efficiency, (2) easy material handling, and (3) all temperature operation, while minimizing the usual disadvantages of frequent maintenance and large size.
