Screening efficiency models developed to date rely almost exclusively on empirical formulas based upon large amounts of acquired operating data. A screening model was developed using a combination of empirical coefficients and explicit mathematical expressions that quantify screening phenomena. A series of screening tests was run to supply data for purposes of correlation and empirical coefficient evaluation. The model was implemented as a digital computer program. The validity of the modeling procedure was established by laboratory testing. The results were used to compile an applications handbook that can be used to predict screening performance instead of using the computer program.
