A driving simulator for large haulage vehicles (100 + tons capacity) was designed and assembled to conduct experiments leading to the definition of prototype driver alertness monitoring and driver warning systems for installation on-board operating vehicles for in- mine tests and evaluation. The truck-mounted system would monitor driver performance and physical condition-behavior to determine onset of unalertness that could lead to an accident. The report describes the large truck simulator, tests using the simulator on driver subjects, and th, specifications for onboard driver alertness monitoring and driver warning system for in-mine testing.
