Silver is critical to the production of many manufactured products. It provides high electrical conductivity, resistance to oxidation, and strength at a wide range of temperatures. In addition, the light-sensitive properties of some silver compounds are essential to the manufacture of photographic film for military and civilian applications while other silver compounds find important uses in medicine. This Bureau of Mines report presents comprehensive data on silver including strategic considerations, problems, technology trends and development, reserves-resources, supply-demand relationship, operating factors and problems, and outlook to 2000.
