Inflow to horizontal drains in tailings embankments. Volume II.

A technique was developed to determine the length and spacing between horizontal drain pipes to be installed in a tailings embankment through the use of the finite element model unsat2. The analysis is based on the combined ouput of a vertical planar mesh and a horizontal planar mesh. The slot opening in the drain pipe and the length of the perforated section are determined from an analogy to water well design. The pipe diameter and gradient can be determined from manning's equation.
