Abstract
The purpose of this study was to categorize and characterize underground metal-nonmetal mining operations from the viewpoint of telecommunication requirements and practices. The objectives were to gather and analyze data, identify communication requirements, and recommend systems for operational emergency and post disaster telecommunications. The results represent a major step towards providing effective means for locating workers trapped underground following a mine disaster.
