Abstract
The purpose of this program was to demonstrate the feasibility of illuminating various types of underground coal mining machinery as required by the federal coal mine illumination standards part 75.1719 to 75.1719-4 Code of Federal Regulations Title 30. Nine various machines were illuminated and the illumination systems were evaluated for a 3-month period. Factors evaluated were ease of implementation, reliability, ease of maintenance, acceptance by mine workers and operators, illumination degradation, and durability.
