Coal Mine Equipment Population Characterization and Protective Structure Status. Volume I.

This report presents the results of a research project that gathered detailed information on the composition of the population of mobile equipment used in U.S. coal mines. A computerized data bank containing over 19,000 pieces of coal mine equipment in use in 1976 was prepared with a data retrieval program. Operator protective structure technology is reviewed and field problems experienced with rollover protective structures are discussed.
