This paper presents the Bureau of Mines ongoing programs on mining health and safety research, advancing mining technology research (production), resource conservation, and environment protection. These research, development, and demonstration programs are conducted to achieve the goals of improved safety and efficiency of existing mining systems while simultaneously developing new systems that are safer and more productive and compatible with an aesthetic environment.
