Abstract
This report contains information on the compaction characteristics of retorted (semiworks plant, direct heating method) oil shale densified in the field by various types of commerical compacting equipment and the effects of (1) number of equipment passes, (2) thickness of layers, and (3) moisture addition. It also contains information on field densification of the retorted shale and particle breakdown occurring during the compaction processes plus a comparison of results from full-scale field tests and from standard ASTM laboratory compaction tests.
