Abstract
This report (Contract No. S0133127) is a review and field observation study of coal surface mining and reclamation problems, policies, and practices in the Midwest coal producing region. A wide variety of subjects is covered including problems associated with surface mining reclamation technology and costs, environmental assessments of surface mined land, reclamation planning and policy, and a review of state reclamation laws and enforcement procedures.
