Wedge Longwall Cutterhead Development, Phase I.
NTIS: PB/245-032 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :40 pages
This report contains details concerning the development of a wedge- shaped cutterhead, which is intended to make longwall methods adaptable to hard rock mining. The design, fabrication, and successful field testing of a modified wedge cutterhead containing a specialized nose cutter is described. In situ testing has demonstrated that relatively hard rock can be cut on a longwall face with roller cutters at force levels that can be derived from a full- scale, heavy-duty, roof support system.
