Development of a High Energy Impact Breaker for Shaft Sinking. Initial Feasibility and Field Trials in a Rectangular Shaft.

This report describes the feasibility, development, and field demonstration of a system for shaft sinking employing a high-energy mechanical impact rock breaker and a compatible muck disposal system. The increased shaft sinking rates, decreased costs, and improved safety conditions obtainable by the elimination of the less efficient conventional drill-blast-muck cycles are discussed.
