Hinkle-D; Newsom-D; Parsons-G
For Reference Only At Bureau Libraries :84 pages
This demonstration was performed to attempt to prove the feasibility of mining coal underground, using specially modified conventional equipment to improve safety, without sacrificing production. To insure protection against roof and rib falls, cabs and canopies, with hydraulic relief features, were mounted on all equipment operated in the immediate face area. Standardization of controls, improved controls, equipment mounted illumination, a unique communications system, high-voltage trailing cables, battery powered track haulage, bulk rockdusting in the mining cycle, and an innovative remote roof bolter were the main features by the demonstration.
