Survey of Coal Preparation Technology for Hydraulic Coal Mines.
For Reference Only At Bureau Libraries :455 pages
A literature search and a survey were prepared on the technology of coal preparation for use with hydraulic coal mines that produce a higher-than-usual content of fine coal fractions, increasing the difficulty of cleaning, dewatering, water clarification, and refuse disposal. Extensive use was made of Russian references that were translated into English. A review of U.S. coal preparation practices was made and the changes were identified that would be required to handle coarse coal that is produced by a hydraulic coal mine or transported by pipeline as a coarse coal slurry. The problems are most severe when the coal contains fine colloidal clay impurities. Research is recommended on improvement of dewatering equipment such as centrifuges and on the direct utilization of coal slurry for combustion to avoid the expense of dewatering.
