NTIS: PB/226-773 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :32 pages
This report describes the state-of-the-art of electromagnetic noise and the additional noise measurements required relative to coal mine communications. It surveys the efforts of six contractors to the Bureau of Mines with regard to their electromagnetic noise- measurement program. What has been done, what is planned, and evaluations and recommendations are given for each contractor. The main observation is that at the time of this report there was insufficient knowledge of electromagnetic interference in mine environments to design a reliable communication system. A major effort of the report, which is described in Appendix A, was to establish parameters to be measured, units to be used, and workable formats for data presentation. Some details concerning equipment, procedures, locations, and sample data are included in Appendix B.
