Seismic Mine Monitor System, Phase II Report.
NTIS: PB/241-504 :39 pages
This research studied the possibility of using a seismic listening system to detect and locate miners trapped in areas where other communications were not available. The report describes the equipment and preliminary test results of a permanent seismic monitoring system at an operating coal mine. The results showed that seismic events such as explosions, major roof falls, and hammer blows by trapped miners can be detected and located with a seismic system located on the surface.
