Coal Mine Rescue Survival System - 3 Volume Set. Volume 3 - Rescue Subsystem.
NTIS: PB/208-268 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :62 pages
This volume describes the method by which trapped miners, located by the communications/location subsystem or other means, can be rescued. It is the purpose of the rescue subsystem to complete a probe hole as soon as possible from the surface to the miners' location through which their survival needs can be met until a rescue hole reaches them in the minimum of additional time. The entire operation must be carried out without creating additional hazards for the men trapped underground. Two separate rotary-type drilling rigs, along with their associated drilling equipment, have been assembled to carry out the probe and rescue operations. Drilling industry experience has been applied to the design of equipment and drilling procedures for the small diameter holes of the probe rig and the large diameter holes of the rescue rig.
