Design and Demonstration of a Longwall Illumination System.
NTIS: PB 299-555 :61 pages
A second generation lighting system was installed in an underground longwall operation. The lighting effects provided an improved working environment, and there are indications that safety and productivity are also enhanced. Maintenance records showed that the lighting components are reliable and that the maintenance of the lighting system over a period of time does not involve excessive costs. The importance of intrinsically safe circuits was also demonstrated in that the use of connectors and nonexplosion-proof boxes greatly reduced installation and maintenance efforts and also provided a practical means for removing and reinstalling lamps for blasting that is frequently required.
