Optimized Operator Compartments.
NTIS: PB 297-668 :94 pages
Redesigns of the operator compartments on a continuous miner and on a face haulage vehicle are described. The objective was to optimize the compartments within limitations of existing equipment and functional configurations. Both safety and production should be improved through more comfort for the operator and more natural placement of controls. Design guidelines supplied by the Bureau of Mines from a previous investigation were used along with human factors analyses to determine requirements. Mockups were fabricated from layouts and used to refine design details. The new compartments were implemented and the machines evaluated underground.
