NTIS: PB/235-642 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :113 pages
This report (Contract No. H0122011) summarizes the work completed during the period August 1971 to September 1973. The objectives were to study the feasibility of improved cable handling methods and to design a cable handling device for a continuous miner, to design and construct a cable reel control system to significantly reduce cable whip, and to design and construct prototype cable fault locators. The continuous miner cable handling device developed is a separate, independently powered tender. Cable whip was eliminated or reduced by studying a relatively large payout torque. Fault locating devices were developed. The demonstrated performance of the fault locating devices led to a 1-year extension of the contract for fabrication of 12 sample kits for extensive testing in mines.
