Protection and Troubleshooting of Coal Mine Electrical Cables - 4 Volume Set. Volume 3 - Summary Report. Cable Fault Locator Instrument for Period August 1971 to November 1972.
NTIS: PB/235-641 Available for Reference At Bureau Libraries :133 pages
This report (Contract No. H0122011) covers the development of cable fault locator instruments that can be used to find faults in electrical cables in the face area of coal mines. Electrical trailing cable used to power coal mining machinery is frequently damaged while in use by the tensile strain or crushing effect of mining machines running over the cable. One of the repair problems is finding the exact location of a short or open in the cable so that it may be spliced or repaired. This report describes the performance of several existing instruments as trailing cable fault locators and also describes construction details and performance records of several cable fault location instruments designed, built, and tested as part of this project.
